What it means
Said at the end of a match to mean 'good game,' often as polite sportsmanship between players. Outside gaming it's used sarcastically to mean a situation is hopelessly over or doomed.

Where it comes from
An acronym for 'good game' rooted in competitive online gaming and esports culture from the late 1990s onward. Typing 'gg' became standard match etiquette and later a sarcastic shorthand for defeat.
