interjection🔥 Gen-Z slang

bruh

an expression of disbelief or dismay

What it means

A catch-all reaction to something disappointing, ridiculous, or just unbelievable. It's said with a flat, deadpan delivery and works whether you're annoyed, stunned, or secondhand-embarrassed for someone.

Examples

  • Bruh, you actually replied-all to the whole company?
  • He missed the open goal. Bruh.
  • Bruh I studied all night and the quiz got cancelled.
  • She left me on read for three days. Bruh.

Where it comes from

Evolved from 'brother' / 'bro' in AAVE, where 'bruh' had long been a term of address. It morphed into a standalone exclamation of disbelief through Vine and meme culture in the mid-2010s.
