noun🔥 Gen-Z slang

boomer

an out-of-touch older person

What it means

A dismissive label for someone older whose attitudes or tech habits feel hopelessly out of date. It's used to wave off opinions seen as cluelessly old-fashioned, regardless of the person's actual age.

Examples

  • "Just call them on the phone." Okay boomer.
  • My boss is such a boomer about remote work.
  • Boomer energy: printing every email out.
  • He doesn't trust online banking, total boomer move.

Where it comes from

Short for 'baby boomer,' the post-WWII generation. The dismissive 'OK boomer' retort went viral on TikTok and Twitter in late 2019 as a Gen-Z clapback at older critics.
